More About Me
As a native Floridian and the son of a Lineman, I grew up experiencing the devastating impact of storms and the consequences of not being properly prepared. As I began my career in the Powerline Industry in 1983 I witnessed further the deadly results of a lack of training and safety. As I furthered my career, I continued to see this lack of proper safety and training courses in the industry, so starting in 2010 I decided to address this need in the market.
Over the last 40 years, I have held the positions of a United State Marine, Groundman, Apprentice, Journeyman, Supervisor, Trainer, Safety and Training Manager, Director of Operations, Director of Safety and Specialized Training, Executive Director of Training, and in 2015, I moved my family from Florida to North GA to work with the Southeastern Lineman Training Center as their Executive Director of Training. After my time at SLTC, I accepted a position as the International Live Line Safety and Training Specialist with Altec Worldwide and I still work with Altec as a contractor today.
Over the years, I have acquired a diverse skill set of working with investor-owned utilities, contractors and consulting around the globe. I am a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) and a member of the Utilities Safety Operation Leader Network (USOLN) and hold a Master Trainer certification through the Langevin Learning and Training Organization. I have also written multiple articles for Safety and Training magazines and several customized lineman-training curriculums. My extensive experience ranges from safety and training consulting where I provide consulting for companies around the world in Live Line Training, Lineman Apprenticeship Training, and Supervisor Skills Training, to conducting root cause analysis of major incidences.
My goal in starting Tim Self Powerline Safety and Training is to encourage, strengthen, and grow the Powerline Industry with the highest level of training and safety and help drive companies toward a strong and safe future.
